The Ministry of Education and Science (the Directorate-General for Education) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (through Camões, Institute of Language and Cooperation) jointly manage this certificate, stipulated by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), to measure the language proficiency levels for education, employment, immigration or citizenship.

government; The Ministry of Foreign Affairs conducts the test in many countries
through its local Centro Cultural
Brasileiro.

CELPE-Bras evaluates two core areas: oral and written.
o They organize the CELPE-Bras twice a year, usually in April and October.
