Portuguese Language Certifications

Portuguese spoken in 10 countries including Brazil, Mozambique, Angola, Portugal, Guinea-Bissau, East Timor, Equatorial Guinea, Macau, Cape Verde, and São Tomé and Príncipe. Other regions includes Japan, Malaysia, Namibia, South Africa and Zambia, Venezuela, Guyana and the United States. 

Portuguese proficiency tests are two different types, widely accepted Portuguese certifications globally.

European Portuguese

The Ministry of Education and Science (the Directorate-General for Education) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (through Camões, Institute of Language and Cooperation) jointly manage this certificate, stipulated by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), to measure the language proficiency levels for education, employment, immigration or citizenship.

CAPLE: Centro de Avaliação de Português Língua Estrangeira

It Supervises on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Portugal.

CAPLE certifications never expires.

This course has five diploma levels for general and four tests for schools.

TEJO: Teste de Português para Jovens Estrangeira

o   This test is a progressive exam, from A1 to B1 for non-native youngsters aged between 9 and 11 years.

o   It is applied only at the French Lyceum of Lisbon.

ACESSO: Certificado Acesso ao Português

ACESSO is equivalent to CEFR A1.

o   This tailored course is suitable for non-native young, aged between 12 and 15 years.

o   CAPLE designed ACESSO for schools as the second language.

o   The core areas to be covered are writing, oral, listening and reading.

CIPLE: Certificado Inicial de Português Língua Estrangeira

CIPLE is equivalent to CEFR A2.

o   This tailored course is suitable for non-native young, aged between 15 and 18 years.

o   CIPLE is suitable for schools as the second language.

o   The core areas to be covered are writing, oral, listening and reading.

DEPLE: Diploma Elementar de Português Língua Estrangeira

DEPLE is equivalent to CEFR B1.

o   This course is for non-native with 18+ years.

o   Best suitable for working professional, admission in colleges or Universities, Citizenship and Immigration.

o   The core areas to be covered are writing, oral, listening and reading.

DIPLE: Diploma Intermédio de Português Língua Estrangeira

DIPLE is equivalent to CEFR B2.

o   This course is for non-native, aged between 12 and 15 years.

o   Best suitable for working professionals related to healthcare, admission in colleges or Universities.

o   The core areas to be covered are writing, oral, listening, reading and sociocultural.

DAPLE: Diploma Avançado de Português Língua Estrangeira

DAPLE is equivalent to CEFR C1.

o   Best suitable for working professional, admission in Universities.

o   The core areas to be covered are writing, oral, listening, reading and socio-culture and linguistic-cultural.

DUPLE: Diploma Universitário de Português Língua Estrangeira

DUPLE is equivalent to CEFR C2.

Note: They conduct the CAPLE exams in May, July, and November.

Brazilian Portuguese

This is the only Portuguese proficiency test recognized by The Ministry of Education of the Brazilian government; The Ministry of Foreign Affairs conducts the test in many countries through its local Centro Cultural Brasileiro.

o   The CELPE-Bras evaluates two core areas: oral and written.

o   They organize the CELPE-Bras twice a year, usually in April and October. 

TELC Português B1

o   For Portuguese, only B1 is available.

o   The test comprises an oral and a written section.

Korean Language Certifications

Korean Proficiency Test helps to study, work, or immigrate to South Korea. There are two types of certifications with multiple levels and sub levels. TOPIK & KLPT S-TOPIK: Standard Test of Proficiency in Korean NIIED (National Institute for International Education) administers the TOPIK globally. Additionally, the KIIP program comprises Korean language training and understanding Korean Society and helps in the KIIP (Korea Immigration and Integration Program) operated by the Ministry of Justice.
